Postpartum Physical Healing: Traditional Homeopathic Supports

The bliss of baby is finally here!
Yet, there are still bruises you can see, tears you can feel, and cracks that are sensitive.
The fourth trimester has begun, in all its beautiful moving parts supporting your own body and self for a full recovery can be one of the greatest gifts you can give your growing family!
Here are the homeopathic remedies traditionally associated with Postpartum Physical Healing:
Safety Note: While we explore traditional support for postpartum physical healing, if an individual is experiencing severe pain, excessive bleeding (soaking through pads), fever, severe headaches/dizziness/fainting, changes in vision, chest pain, trouble breathing, severe nausea/vomiting, or extreme swelling of hands or face, these are urgent maternal warning signs which can indicate life threatening emergencies and you need to call 911 or go to the emergency room immediately.
1. Arnica:
In general, this remedy is a great remedy for any shock, bruising, sore muscles, or sudden pain – which makes it an ideal fit for postpartum healing! Keep Arnica in your birth bag for those first afterbirth pains or cramping from nursing – and also for healing the perineum or other soft tissues. Lastly, it can be used to help control any excess bleeding postpartum.
2. Bellis Perenis:
Think of this as an internal Arnica, where it works a bit more deeply (ex. internal bruising) on afterbirth pains or c-section recovery. If there was any type of injury due to birth Bellis Perenis can be considered.
3. Hypericum:
For anything nerve-related such as shooting pains, tingles; as well as any lingering effects from an epidural or an episiotomy. Also, a great choice if you are having headaches resulting from an epidural.
4. Calendula:
Is known for its ability to heal the skin, and speed up new growth. Think of this remedy if you suffered from any tearing during birth or for healing from a c-section. Keep on hand for raw and cracked nipples due to nursing as well.
