There are few things in life as miserable as an earache.

The last few years for some reason or another I randomly started getting them.

To put it bluntly: it is a truly terrible experience.

It is the kind of thing that you can’t help but notice every moment of the day.

The nagging feeling is just constantly there, making you pine for a time that your ear simply did not ache.

So alas, here are a few of the homeopathic remedies traditionally associated with earaches:

Safety Note: While we explore traditional support for comfort, an earache should always be evaluated by a healthcare professional to check for infection or injury. Seek immediate medical care if you notice high fever, fluid or blood draining from the ear, sudden hearing loss, or intense dizziness.

1. Pulsatilla

One of the top remedies for chronic earaches in children (along with Chamomilla). They may have thick discharge from the ears, coupled with a cold involving thick green discharge from the nose. The ears may feel itchy, and often worse at night. They may be exceptionally weepy, emotional, and desire a lot of cuddling/affection.

2. Belladonna

Typically one of the most painful, throbbing, pulsating types of earaches. Most commonly affecting theright ear. Can coincide with a high fever (skin being hot to the touch), as well as throat pain. They may have a red face, and be showing sensitivity to light.

3. Chamomilla

A very common remedy for earaches associated with teething. There can be very severe stitching ear pain, causing irritability, with a desire to be carried. To differentiate from Pulsatilla: the crying from a Pulsatilla will seem more pitiful and sad, whereas the Chamomilla crying will seem more angry/immediate.

4. Merc sol

Usually for more advanced earaches coupled with swollen lymph nodes. There may be intense shooting pains, and drooling during sleep.

Other notable mentions: if there is discharge and it is white, the cell salt Kali Mur; or if there is discharge and it is yellow the cell salt Calc Sulph. If the pain feels like a splinter, consider Hepar Sulph.
